Sociologists study how the changing society we live in shapes our lives. We all know something about this already through our experience of family life, education, the mass media, crime etc. This means students can bring their own opinions to discussion in class. However, it’s far from just a matter of opinion – sociology involves digging beneath the surface of things, collecting data scientifically and weighing up competing argument and evidence – key life skills. You will end up with a deeper understanding of the people around you. Sociology is an important part of the training of, amongst others, doctors, police, teachers, business managers.
To study A-level Sociology students should possess a strong interest in Society and how it works. A strong GCSE English Language would be of benefit to anyone who chooses to study Sociology.
