The Physics specification has been designed to prove a seamless transition to A level for students from their previous studies in the subject and to develop interest and enthusiasm in the subject. The specification aims to introduce students to new and exciting areas of physics as well as to develop essential knowledge and understanding of the key principles of the subject. The specification builds on the GCSE course and covers essential topics for progression to post A level courses in Physics and also includes optional topics. These are intended to give an element of flexibility and allow teachers and students to select a topic to be studied in greater depth.
Candidates will need a minimum of six Grade 6s or above at GCSE and will preferably have Grade 7 at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. Students wishing to study Mathematics will require a Grade 8 or 9. For Biology or English Grade 7 will be required. We will also require a minimum of Grade 5 in both English and Mathematics. Where a subject is new at A Level, students will be required to achieve Grade 7 or Grade 6 in related subjects, reflecting the skills required for success in these courses. Pupils should achieve A/A* grade in GCSE Physics before choosing to take A Level Physics.
