There are uses of mathematics in all the pure sciences, such as biology, chemistry, and physics; the social sciences, such as economics, psychology, and sociology; engineering fields, such as civil, mechanical, and industrial engineering; and technological fields such as computers, rockets, and communications. There are even uses in the arts, such as sculpture, drawing, and music. Mathematics will therefore facilitate an almost unlimited number of opportunities for you and open doors that few other subjects can.
Candidates will need a minimum of six Grade 6s or above at GCSE and will preferably have Grade 7 at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. Students wishing to study Mathematics will require a Grade 8 or 9. For Biology or English Grade 7 will be required. We will also require a minimum of Grade 5 in both English and Mathematics. Where a subject is new at A Level, students will be required to achieve Grade 7 or Grade 6 in related subjects, reflecting the skills required for success in these courses. Students studying this course are expected to have achieved a level 8 or 9 in GCSE Mathematics.
