Course summary

In the first year of the course, pupils will be introduced to a variety of experiences, employing a range of media, processes and techniques appropriate to their area of individual study. Their knowledge of Art will be extended through contextual research, experimentation with materials, development of ideas and the realisation of final outcomes. Pupils will be encouraged to recognise and develop their own strengths in the subject. Great emphasis is placed on the individuality of approach and the willingness to take risks with techniques and concepts.

Entry requirements

A Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above to include English and Mathematics. At least a Grade 6 is obtained in the subjects the student would like to study in the Sixth Form. International students will be asked to sit a test in English and Mathematics.

How you'll be assessed

1. Personal Investigation (60% of A Level) (No time limit) A personal investigation in which pupils develop practical work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choice. The practical work is supported by a personal study of 1000 – 3000 words. 2. Externally Set Assignment (40% of A Level) (Supervised time: 15 hours) An externally set assignment based on eight starting points from which pupils will select one. Pupils will work on preparatory studies before producing a conclusive personal response in the supervised time.
