Course summary

The course encourages students to develop a range of essential skills through content which is relevant to any citizen of the planet in the 21st century. Through exciting topics, students will understand the nature of physical and human geography, whilst unpicking the debates surrounding contemporary challenges facing the world today. A range of themes, places and environments at different scales and in different contexts including the UK and countries in various states of development will be studied.

Entry requirements

Candidates will need a minimum of six Grade 6s or above at GCSE and will preferably have Grade 7 at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. Students wishing to study Mathematics will require a Grade 8 or 9. For Biology or English Grade 7 will be required. We will also require a minimum of Grade 5 in both English and Mathematics. Where a subject is new at A Level, students will be required to achieve Grade 7 or Grade 6 in related subjects, reflecting the skills required for success in these courses. Students do not need to have completed GCSE Geography. However, students do need good literacy and numeracy skills and will need to write extended prose. Students will also be taught a variety of statistical techniques to analyse data collected on field trips, so they should have a scientific calculator.
