The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Applied Science is intended as an Applied General qualification for pupils who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education, and ultimately to employment, possibly in the applied science sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level and aims to give a coherent introduction to the study of applied science. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. Learners will study two mandatory units: • Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Science • Unit 2: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques • Unit 3: Science Investigation Skills Up to 56 UCAS tariff points – equivalent to 1 A Level.
Offers of places will be made based on predicted GCSE Grades and applicants will require at least 5 passes at Grade 5 or above; at least a 6 in any subject to be studied at A Level except for Mathematics and the Sciences in which the candidate must have achieved at least a Grade 7.
