Course summary

This subject will develop pupils’ understanding of the principles of problem-solving using computers. There is an emphasis on programming at A Level and scope for pupils to show their individuality in their programming projects. The syllabus is split largely into theory and programming lessons, with the main programming language being C#. Lessons include a variety of approaches with resources shared through Google Classroom and a custom website. Most of the time in lessons is then given over to answering questions to challenge and develop an understanding of theory concepts or creating programs to demonstrate and explore programming concepts. Homework tasks can be either theory or programming work and the Wolfson suite facilities are available to pupils who want to work in between lessons. There are also many extra-curricular opportunities with competitions or awards such as Bebras, National Cipher Challenge, Coding Game, British Informatics Olympiad, or iDEA. We also enjoy inviting alumni back to talk to current pupils about their experience in computing.
