Course summary

Take a look at the world around you. How close to a computer are you? When was the last time you used one? When was the last time you were creative with one? Life without computers is almost unimaginable. There is nothing that does not involve computing in some way. Computing is not just about writing code for a computer. There is far more to it than that. If you want evidence of this, just look at the amazing artwork or the surround sound and special effects that go into all the multi-million pound video games. Watch any modern film and the special effects will show countless examples of computing in action. The music you listen to has been engineered, compressed and transmitted all thanks to computers. Every aspect of modern life is captured on social media.

Entry requirements

The qualification for Sixth Form entry for external candidates is 44 points (or equivalent) from the best 6 IGCSE/GCSE subjects. Additionally, there are specific entry requirements for each A-Level Subject and this information is forwarded to prospective families at the enquiry or application stage.

How you'll be assessed

At the end of the Fifth Year, you will sit two exam papers, both 1 hour and 45 minutes in length. Paper 1 is a theory exam worth 60%. Paper 2 is a problem-solving and programming exam worth 40%. Some of the questions are based on programs you create earlier in the year to solve problems set by the exam board.
