If you enjoy finding out about how our world works and how we interact with our environment, then this is the course for you. Geography is, in the broadest sense, an education for life and for living. It provides an ideal framework for relating other fields of knowledge, and it is not surprising that those trained as geographers often contribute substantially to the applied management of resources and environments. You will take part in independent research, develop written, numerical and investigative skills, travel and do practical work outdoors. Fieldwork is a key part of Geography; as part of the course, you will have the opportunity to visit a range of locations within the UK and abroad.
You do not need to have studied the subject at GCSE in order to take A-Level Geography but it may be an advantage. Ideally you would have Grade 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics and English.
Three externally assessed written examination papers are worth 80% of the total grade. Coursework is worth 20% of the total grade.
