Course summary

Stowe offers the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering, in collaboration with Silverstone UTC. Pupils choosing this course should be aware that some compulsory modules are taught during Wednesday afternoon activity periods and, as such, they will not be available to take part in the sport and extra‐curricular programme on Wednesdays. This practical and applied course is designed for learners who are interested in a career in the engineering sector. It combines well with A Levels in Mathematics, Physics and Design, but may also provide a good alternative for pupils whose GCSE profiles may mean that they struggle to gain access on to the A Level Science courses. The BTEC qualification, equivalent to a full A Level, is fully recognised by Higher education providers and accepted, in combination with A Levels or other BTECs, for admission to a range of degree courses in the engineering and STEM sectors.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to achieve a minimum of Grade 6 in six subjects at GCSE or iGCSE, however, candidates intending to study A Level Sciences or Languages are required to achieve a minimum of Grade 7, with Grade 8 required for Maths. For candidates not following either a curriculum in GCSE or iGCSE, they must meet the equivalent standards. For applicants where English is not their first language before applying, we require a recent UKiset test result. We will only proceed with an application where the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) Score is C1 across all disciplines.
