Studying Spanish will give students the key to travel and adventure, from the rainforests of the Peruvian Amazon to the peaks of the Argentinian Andes; from the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean coast of Mexico to the ancient ruins of Macchu Picchu and beyond. Students will be able to explore the Hispanic culture by listening to music from Spanish-speaking countries, marvelling at both modern architecture and ancient remains, watching films by Spanish directors and so much more. Approximately 406 million people speak Spanish as a native language, making it second only to Mandarin in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. It is spoken as an official language in 23 countries. Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and is used as an official language by the European Union. The Latin American economy is a large, strong, emerging economy and proficiency in Spanish is and will continue to be a very valuable skill to have in business and trade.
Candidates are expected to achieve Grade 7 or above in subjects they wish to take at A Level, or, for subjects not previously studied, a 7 in facilitating subjects. A list of these can be found here. All candidates will take two written general papers, one Maths related and one essay writing based, a computer based thinking skills assessment and have an academic interview, with subject specific staff.
