Physicists study the interplay of force, energy and matter. Physics attempts to unravel and explain the processes at work around us, from the origins of our universe to the behaviour of the smallest subatomic particles. This course aims to provide the student with an interesting and varied grounding in many areas of Physics. The subject is enjoyed in its own right but it also serves as a training in logical and lateral thinking – skills which are so often sought after by potential employers. Teaching takes place within both practical and theory lessons, with a strong emphasis placed on learning through experimentation and discovery.
Candidates are expected to achieve Grade 7 or above in subjects they wish to take at A Level, or, for subjects not previously studied, a 7 in facilitating subjects. A list of these can be found here. All candidates will take two written general papers, one Maths related and one essay writing based, a computer based thinking skills assessment and have an academic interview, with subject specific staff.
