Mathematics A Level is a fully linear qualification. This is a two-year course, with all three units being examined at the end of the Upper Sixth. There are three compulsory units, two of which are Pure Mathematics (focusing on number and algebra) and the third unit is a mixture of Statistics and Mechanics. There is no longer the choice between the application modules as in previous years. Students will need a graphical calculator (Casio FX-CG 50) for this course.
Ideally, those wishing to study Mathematics A Level should have attained at least a grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics and gone onto to study the GCSE Further Mathematics course. However, exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Head of Department. More importantly, students need a commitment to work hard and with determination, as this is not a course for the fainthearted.
