Course summary
Further Mathematics is suited for those with a passion for abstract thinking and problem solving. Within the course, you will meet challenges which will require you to combine your prior GCSE knowledge with complex processes in order to find a solution. You will study areas of Pure, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics, allowing you to develop your logical thinking and learn to interpret models of real-life mechanics. Further Mathematics can be an excellent addition to any university application, it can be seen as an advantage to any science-based degree, as well as actuarial science and mathematics programmes. By taking Further Mathematics, students will be prepared for the challenges of heavily mathematical university courses such as Physics and Mathematics degrees which will delve into further abstract concepts such as modelling with equations of ellipses and equations with solutions in the complex plane.
