Course summary

BTEC Level 3 Sport is a vocational course and provides a broad basis of study, preparing learners for a range of higher education courses and job roles in the sports sector. The course consists of four units over two years, is assessed as coursework, controlled assessment and written examination and is equivalent to one A Level.

Entry requirements

It is a requirement that you have passed GCSE PF, have a genuine interest in sport and have passes in at least five GCSEs including English Language, Mathematics and Science.

How you'll be assessed

Course Content There are three mandatory units and 1 optional unit. Mandatory Units Anatomy and Physiology (written exam); Fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing (controlled assessment); Professional development in the sports industry (assignment). Optional units (assignment) include: Sports Leadership Application of fitness testing; Sports psychology. Practical sports performance In each unit, students will be graded in the format of a Pass, Merit, Distinction Near Pass or Unclassified. Units 1 and 2 have externally assessed exams at the end of their study (May/June or Year 12).
