The personal and professional skills course, or PPS, is a compulsory component of the IBCP core. It is designed for the student to develop attitudes, skills, and strategies to be applied now and in the future. It emphasises critical and ethical thinking, intercultural understanding, and the ability to communicate effectively. It fosters responsibility, practical problem-solving, good intellectual habits, perseverance, resilience, an appreciation of identity and perspective, and an understanding of the complexity of the modern world. Prominence is given to the development of global competence and the transferable 21st-century skills needed to navigate higher education successfully, the workplace and society, as well as the learner’s ability to reflect on and improve such skills. In PPS, there is an emphasis on skills development for higher education and the workplace, as these are transferable and can be applied to a range of situations and contexts.
The entry guideline for Year 12 to join Sixth Form to study the Diploma Programme is at least five grade 4s or above in the GCSE examinations, including a minimum of grade 4 in both English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
