This course inspires students to have an appreciation of the language, literature, film and culture of the French-speaking world. The course builds on familiar and popular themes and covers some of the most fundamental and interesting aspects of French culture and language. There is an emphasis on spontaneity and grammar, as well as providing plenty of opportunities for students to apply their knowledge independently and creatively. Students are encouraged to develop ideas and their use of language to persuade, analyse and give critical responses in their writing and speaking.
French Grade 8. For A level, we would not recommend anything less than a strong level 8 and ideally a 9 at GCSE. Students must have natural linguistic ability to be successful at this level. The course is demanding, and requires a high level of commitment, so there must be a genuine interest in the language itself and an interest to learn more about the society and culture of the country
Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation into English (40% of total) Paper 2: Translation into French and grammar and two essays (one essay on the film and one essay on the literary text) (30% of total) Paper 3: Speaking (Discussion of themes 1 to 4 and independent research topic) (30% of total)
