Course summary

Latin offers the opportunity to study the Romans in depth, from whom we have inherited many aspects of modern civilisation. Students delve deeper into Latin literature and study the work of renowned authors, such as Virgil, Ovid, Cicero and Tacitus. We choose a range of authors so that students can have a broader grasp of Latin literature, as well as teaching students how to translate from English into Latin.

Entry requirements

For entry into the Sixth Form, candidates are required to have at least six good passes at GCSE, including English and Maths.

How you'll be assessed

Latin is assessed with four final examinations, two examinations based on Latin language worth 50% of the A level, and two examinations based on Latin literature, worth the remaining 50% of the A level.
