Photography A level is designed to develop creative thinking and students learn to construct photographic images that contain high visual appeal and visual communication. We aim to develop students’ knowledge and understanding by exploring different materials, techniques and processes in new and challenging ways. In addition, students will deepen their understanding of the purposes and uses of photographic images and the rights and responsibilities of artists and photographers when taking and exhibiting photographs. Contextual understanding is of paramount importance so emphasis is placed on developing skills in research and analysis of the work of artists and photographers to ensure depth of knowledge and understanding which feeds back into the students’ own work.
For entry into the Sixth Form, candidates are required to have at least six good passes at GCSE, including English and Maths.
The mark for A level photography comes from a combined mark of Component one (coursework) 60% and Component two (examination) 40%.
