Pupils who take GCSE Classical Civilisation will benefit from learning transferable skills such as critical thinking, working with source material, essay writing and historical analysis applicable to their future studies in any field. No prior knowledge of the subject, or of Latin, is required, and the course is not an essential preparation for an A Level in Classic Civilisation.
All applicants are invited to attend our assessment day, during which they will sit entrance papers in Maths and English, followed by an online assessment and interview with the Principal. As part of the 13+ assessment, candidates will sit a further paper in a subject of their choice. Other scholarships (eg., art, sport, music, drama) will also be taken at this time.
Two 1 hour 30 minutes written examinations (worth 100% of the GCSE) 1. Thematic Study Component: Women in the Ancient World (50% of GCSE) 2. Literature and Culture Component: Roman City Life (50% of GCSE)
