Focusing on key events and personalities from the last five hundred years, you will gain an insight into the forces which have shaped Britain and the Modern World. Ask yourself: • have I enjoyed History at GCSE? • do I enjoy lively debate and discussion? • am I interested in people? • am I interested in asking questions and searching for answers? What skills or background knowledge will be needed? Prospective candidates for this course need to demonstrate a real and active interest in the subject, in addition to a good set of GCSE results, solid ability in written communication and a hunger to find out why the world is like it is today.
The requirements for entry to the Sixth Form are six good grades (9 - 6) at GCSE unless there are extenuating circumstances. Given the demands of A-level study, you should have attained at least a grade 7 in the subjects you wish to study at A level (or ideally a grade 9 in Mathematics if you wish to study Further Mathematics). Throughout Year 11 you are given a great deal of guidance to select the course of study that best suits your academic needs and career aspirations.
