The Geography syllabus is an exciting concept that provides a bridge between the sciences and the arts. It focuses on issues that are both topical and interesting. Geography is a well-respected subject by both university admissions staff and employers. • Geographers are one of the most employable graduates • Geography is regarded as a desirable academic A level by the Russell Group of universities You will develop a wide range of skills that will be useful in any sector of employment. These will include essay writing, research, collation and presentation of data, ICT, teamwork, and analytical and personal skills. What skills or background information will be needed? In order to study Geography, you must be both literate and numerate, with a curiosity to learn more about the world around you. It is not necessary to have studied the subject at GCSE and we have successfully taught many students who have decided to embark upon the A level course without prior qualifications.
The requirements for entry to the Sixth Form are six good grades (9 - 6) at GCSE unless there are extenuating circumstances. Given the demands of A-level study, you should have attained at least a grade 7 in the subjects you wish to study at A level (or ideally a grade 9 in Mathematics if you wish to study Further Mathematics). Throughout Year 11 you are given a great deal of guidance to select the course of study that best suits your academic needs and career aspirations.
