Course summary

The course is designed to give you the chance to explore fascinating and relevant issues including citizenship and the birth of democracy by investigating classical sources in their ancient world context. Topics will include relations between Greek and non-Greek states in the C5th BC, Alexander and the Rise of Macedon, The Julio-Claudian Emperors and The Flavians. Over the two years, you will develop sophisticated analytical and evaluative skills that are extremely valuable for further study and employment. The course provides the study of aspects such as history and society, politics and literature. It complements a wide range of subjects in Arts and Humanities.

Entry requirements

New entrants must have a minimum of Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and Maths Ideally GCSE Ancient History but not essential; if you have studied GCSE Ancient History, you should have a Grade 7. If not, we recommend a minimum Grade 7 at GCSE in English or History.

How you'll be assessed

- Two exams at the end of the course, one Greek, one Roman - You’ll be assessed on your ability to read ancient historical sources analytically and you’ll also be asked to construct arguments concerning significant events during certain periods.
