Physical Education covers a wide range of disciplines but particularly focuses on participation and performances in Sport. Students will take a lead role in assessing their competence as a performer or coach, developing a comprehensive understanding of elite performances. Students will cover a range of subject areas including anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, exercise physiology, skill acquisition, historical and contemporary studies and data analysis. Students will be encouraged to review their current participation and performance in Sport.
P.E. GCSE Grade 7 or above. Candidates must have an interest in the broad spectrum of sport and must be an active participant in a team or club outside of school.
Two written examinations are taken in June of Year 13 that are set and marked by Edexcel. The theory side of the course is worth 70% of the overall grade awarded. There are two written coursework tasks as well as a practical assessment. These are worth 30% of the overall grade.
