Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Physics challenges our imaginations with concepts such as wave-particle duality and relativity. It leads to great discoveries, such as computers and lasers that change our lives. Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the greatest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. Pupils taking Physics will generally have studied separate Sciences at GCSE. Strong pupils who have studied Dual Award Science can also follow the course. They will however need to do some extra preparation. We can provide copies of the book A Head Start for AS Physics that will help and this can also be easily bought online. We subscribe to the magazine Physics Review which is available in the Department and in the Library and which provides articles related to the theory covered in lessons. Ambitious pupils are encouraged to read this and other secondary sources to develop their background understanding of the subject.
6 and 7 out of Mathematics and Physics (or Dual Award Science).
