The special thing about Drama is that it is as real as life gets. Rich in stories, invention and practice, Drama affords girls the opportunity to engage with the dramatic process not merely as actors but also directors, tech crew, set-designers and even marketers. Performance is an integral part of Drama at OHS, with many girls choosing to study Drama at GCSE and beyond. It is a lively and collaborative subject that develops teamwork, confidence and presentation, with transferable skills for English, History, Classics, Psychology, Politics, Debating and Law.
External applications are warmly invited for Sixth Form (Year 12) entry. Our minimum entry requirements are at least 5 A*/A grades or grade 7 or above at GCSE, and it is expected that you will achieve an A* or grade 8/9 in the subjects you want to study at A Level. In addition, external candidates are required to achieve at least a grade A, or grade 7 or above, in English Language and Mathematics. Should an applicant wish to change their subject choices following tests, offer or acceptance of the offer, we reserve the right to re-test and/or re-interview.
Component 1 – Devising (40% of the qualification) Students will create an original devised performance in small groups. As a stimulus they will use one piece of original performance text, a choice of which is set by the board, and a chosen practitioner. In addition, students will write a 3000 word portfolio, evidencing their journey through devising. Component 2 – Text in Performance (20% of the qualification) Students will develop and demonstrate theatre-making skills in this component, and explore how they realise artistic intentions in performance. They will perform a monologue or dialogue from one performance text, and a group performance of a key extract from a different performance text.
