Course summary

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Using theories and evidence, it strives to discover what causes us to think and behave as we do. As such, pupils enjoy the opportunity to relate their learning to everyday life. The course consists of three papers: paper 1 involves core topics including social influence and abnormal Psychology; paper 2 looks at the different approaches in Psychology that lead to the discursive nature of the subject, whilst paper 3 sees you specialise with a focus on cognitive development, stress, and aggression. Research methods is a key component that features in all three papers, allowing you to appreciate the idea of Psychology being a Science and to evaluate the validity of the evidence presented to you. This also requires some statistical analysis and basic mathematical calculations.

6 in a Science, 5 in Mathematics and English.
