Course summary

The field of Chemistry has evolved significantly from its early beginnings with alchemists, who sought to transform common metals into gold. While today’s alchemists are not considered true scientists, modern Chemistry traces its origins back to alchemy. Chemistry is a subject that offers engaging, challenging, and interesting content, directly relevant to many aspects of daily life. It occupies a unique position in the curriculum as a science that is governed by rules and laws, yet allows for creativity. Often referred to as the central science, Chemistry underpins both the physical world we inhabit and biological systems. Students will study: • Stoichiometric Relationships • Kinetic Molecular Theory and Atomic Theory • Periodicity • Chemical Bonding and Structure • Energetics • Chemical Kinetics • Equilibrium • Acids and Bases • Redox • Organic Chemistry • Measurement and Data Processing • Analytical Techniques (HL only)
