The ‘OCR A’ GCSE Geography specification is a lively and exciting Geography course that captures student’s imagination through studying contemporary themes and issues that affect the real world. The course has three components: Living in the UK today, The World Around US, and Geographical Skills.
Entry to the Sixth Form for UK students is determined by candidates obtaining 5 GCSE grades at grade 5 or better and at least a grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study at A level (where appropriate). In addition, a school report is required and candidates may expect an interview with the Head or Assistant Head, Teaching and Learning.
“Living in the UK” (60 marks) is assessed via a 1 hour 15 minute written paper exam. It’s worth 30% of the qualification. “The world around us” (60 marks) is assessed via a 1 hour 15 minute written paper exam. It’s worth 30% of the qualification. “Geographical skills” (60 marks) is assessed via a 1 hour 30 minute written paper exam. It’s worth 40% of the qualification. Learners must complete all components: 01, 02 and 03 to be awarded the OCR GCSE (9–1) in Geography A (Geographical Themes).
