Physics is a subject of enormous breadth; from the macroscopic forces that underpin the lifecycles of stars and galaxies to the microscopic ones which inform atoms and quantum particles. Physics underpins all other sciences and provides explanations for why the world and the universe work the way they do. Students get to explore these astonishing phenomena, as well as how our understanding of physics can be used in the everyday world.
Students seeking to join Milton Abbey in the Sixth Form are judged on individual merit regarding their suitability for our courses. Course choices are made in consultation with the Head or Deputy Head, and the Head of Sixth Form. For A-Level students we usually require a B-Grade (Level 6) in relevant GCSE subjects, but we are always open to discuss individual circumstances. We also have a popular range of more vocational BTEC courses, which have more flexible admission requirements. For entry into the Sixth Form, candidates' Admissions Visits will include an interview with the Head or her Deputy, a Housemaster or Housemistress, and the Head of Sixth Form. They will also be given a tour of the school, be able to meet current Sixth Formers, and visit the Boarding Houses.
Traditional A-Level with final assessment. Full A-Level only. 3 x 2hr written exams looking at wave-particle mechanics, thermal and nuclear physics, and practical applications. The exams will also test practical knowledge and data analysis.
