Course summary

If you are interested in people’s lives and the forces that influence them, then History is the subject for you. By studying history, you will be developing the skills of communication and argument. This subject will challenge you to make valid interpretations of past events and yet remain objective. Lessons involve analysis of various sources, discussion and use of multimedia. We will focus on using sources critically, developing valuable skills of analysis and evaluation.

Entry requirements

An interest in, and a desire to study, History are essential, along with curiosity about the past, and interest in research and problem solving. Good pass in subjects at GCSE or equivalent IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

How you'll be assessed

Formal internal assessments take place once every half term and homework is set on a regular basis. Grades are determined by three components: two examined modules and an extended coursework essay (or Non-Examined Assessment). Final examinations for component 1 and 2 take place in May/June at the end of the 2-year course. An end of year exam must be passed for entry to year 2 and a mock exam must be passed for entry into the public exams.
