This qualificaƟon provides students with an excellent grounding in the fundamentals of business. It allows them to get an idea of how the whole business functions together, whilst also allowing them to look in more detail at specific areas of the organisation. A large number of students who study A –level business go on to study it further at university. At the core of the course is decision-making and how this is used to improve the performance of the four functional areas: marketing, operations management, financial and human resources. The focus later on in the course shiŌs very much to strategy. Lecture style note taking, video, class discussion, analysis and evaluation of data, individual and group presentaƟons, study and completion of past examination papers. The business course is taught by specialist teachers, who all have industry experience.
Applicants who wish to join us in the Sixth Form have the opportunity to attend a Sixth Form Open Evening. They will then be invited into school to meet Mr Softley, our Assistant Head (Sixth Form & Futures), followed by an invitation to attend our Sixth Form Taster Day. An offer will be made subject to our entry requirements of at least 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above (including at least a 6/B grade in chosen A level subjects).
Three equally weighted exam papers covering all of the topic areas. Paper 2 includes data‐response questions and Paper 3 includes a compulsory case study. There is no coursework. Students will have the option of taking AS Business at the end of the two-year course as an alternative to the full A‐level.
