he IB Diploma Programme History course at Charterhouse focuses on aspects of World History in the twentieth century. At HL and SL, pupils will study two twentieth century world history topics. One covers the origins and development of authoritarian and single-party states, with particular reference to Italy under Mussolini and China under Mao. The other topic is a history of the causes and effects of war. In addition, pupils will study the prescribed topic, The Move to Global War. In addition, HL pupils will also study European History from 1855 to 1939, focusing on: Imperial Russia (1855-1924), the Origins and Course of World War One, and European States in the inter-war years.
It is not necessary to have studied History before taking the subject as part of the IB Diploma Programme. What is needed is an interest in the past, an enjoyment of reading, and a willingness to learn the skills associated with writing creatively and analytically.
