Communication skills are important and you will need to enjoy problem solving along with the analysis of scientific information. Good memory skills are essential, along with an organised approach to problem-solving. Mathematics is an important aspect of studying biology and the basis of doing statistical testing is taught in the Lower Sixth. Investigations are an integral part of the course and you will be expected to plan experiments and write up your findings in the form of tables, graphs, conclusions and evaluations. The Core Practicals (10 in the Lower Sixth and 8 in the Upper Sixth) aim to develop the skills and techniques needed to manipulate a variety of pieces of equipment to gain valid, accurate and reliable data, the principles of which are later examined in the termly assessed written papers.
