The course is structured around giving opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to practical real world situations. The course puts a new spin on old topics and introduces new topics from which look at the cutting edge of Physics research as it is now. In Lower Sixth you will develop on knowledge of Waves, Electricity and Mechanics, whilst introducing Materials, Particles and Quantum Phenomena. The added areas allow you to study many of the deeper questions surrounding the fundamental particles and forces that make up our universe, as well as providing an introduction to the fascinating world of quantum mechanics. The topics previously studied are put on a far more sound basis, with mathematical content backing it up and advanced experimental content being used to show how theories can be tested. In Upper Sixth, you will study Further Mechanics, Fields (Gravitational, Electric and Magnetic), Capacitance, Thermal Physics, Radioactivity and Turning Points. The understanding of Fields is key to the study of Physics at a higher level, and seeing the links between them allows you to understand the forces underpinning the universe. Further Mechanics shows how to deal with more complex moving systems, whilst Thermal, Radioactivity and Capacitance give real world detail to your previous knowledge. Turning Points answers questions about how Physics developed to this stage, as well as allowing for the study of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.
At least a Grade 7 in Triple Award Physics GCSE/IGCSE or a Grade 7 in the Physics component of Double Award Science. At least a Grade 7 in GCSE/IGCSE Maths.
