The course begins midway through Year 12. Students are given lessons on a variety of skills that will be required to complete the qualificaƟon – e.g. presentation, researching, referencing Students complete an independent research project on a question of their own choice. The project involves the compleƟon of a 5000-word essay Each student is appointed a staff supervisor with whom they meet at regular intervals to review progress.
Applicants who wish to join us in the Sixth Form have the opportunity to attend a Sixth Form Open Evening. They will then be invited into school to meet Mr Softley, our Assistant Head (Sixth Form & Futures), followed by an invitation to attend our Sixth Form Taster Day. An offer will be made subject to our entry requirements of at least 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above (including at least a 6/B grade in chosen A level subjects).
Assessment is through the production of a research log, a presentation, the research project itself and a review. The qualification gives UCAS points up to A* equivalent to half an A‐level.
