The course is designed to encourage learners to develop an interest in and enthusiasm for the subject and to develop an ability to think like an economist. The Eduqas specification is particularly strong on applied economics and students will develop analytical and quantitative skills which will equip them for the challenges and opportunities in their adult working life. Qualification at a glance At Moreton Hall, we follow the Eduqas specification. The Advanced GCE in Economics is a two year course and is divided into two main areas: microeconomics and macroeconomic. The A Level is a linear qualification in which all assessments must be taken at the end of the course. The content areas for microeconomics are: • Scarcity and choice • Demand and supply in product markets • Demand and supply in labour markets • Resource allocation • Costs, revenues and profits • Market structures • Market failure For macroeconomics, the content areas are: • Macroeconomic theory • Macroeconomic objectives • Policy instruments
All applicants are invited to attend our assessment day, during which they will sit entrance papers in Maths and English, followed by an online assessment and interview with the Principal. As part of the 13+ assessment, candidates will sit a further paper in a subject of their choice. Other scholarships (eg., art, sport, music, drama) will also be taken at this time.
Component 1: Economic Principles Multiple choice questions and structured questions. 1 hour 30 minutes. 30% of qualification Component 2: Exploring Economic Behaviour Data response questions. 2 hours 30 minutes. 30% of qualification Component 3: Evaluating Economic Models & Policies Three essays – one on microeconomics, one on macroeconomics and one on Trade and Development. 2 hours 30 minutes. 40% of qualification
