In this course we tackle a range of Ethical Debates as viewed through the eyes of two contrasting religions, a secular perspective and various Philosophical Ideas. Additionally, we look at the beliefs and practices of two world religions; Christianity and Islam. Some of the questions that we will consider are: • How have views towards marriage changed in the UK? • How has the rights of women in the UK challenged religious belief? • Should religion have a view on abortion or euthanasia? • Should the rights of animals be considered in religion? • What is justice? • Should the rights of prisoners be respected? • Under what circumstances should people go to war? • How can we maintain peace? • Should religion be respected today? The course is an excellent foundation for A Level Philosophy and Religious Studies. It is also a course that will equip you with the skills to write critically and to evaluate several points of view. You will be encouraged to debate and deepen your views from an informed and mature perspective.
All applicants are invited to attend our assessment day, during which they will sit entrance papers in Maths and English, followed by an online assessment and interview with the Principal. As part of the 13+ assessment, candidates will sit a further paper in a subject of their choice. Other scholarships (eg., art, sport, music, drama) will also be taken at this time.
100% Examination. No coursework or controlled assessment. Paper 1: Christian Belief and Practice Paper 2: Islamic Belief and Practice Paper 3: Non-Textual Studies; Ethical Issues
