The course aims to enable students to develop an intellectually independent and creative way of thinking, relate their philosophical understanding to other disciplines and to personal, social and civic life and to formulate arguments in a sound and purposeful way. The course is organised by theme: all students study the Core Theme based around ideas of what it means to be a human being; a second theme related to the Theories and Problems of Ethics; and a choice of a third theme of either Philosophy of Religion or Political Philosophy. In addition there is a careful study of a prescribed philosophical text.
Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7 (maximum of 42 points).
