The A level Product Design course gives you an exciting opportunity to be creative and the freedom to manufacture in our extensive workshops. The Product Design Department is a superb purpose-built environment where you will have the opportunity to use an enviable range of specialist tools and equipment, including state of the art CAD/CAM, Rapid Prototyping, a metals fabrication and heat treatment area. We also have three studios, each equipped with sixteen PCs for design, computer modelling and graphical presentation work.
For acceptance onto the course, you should normally have achieved a minimum of 30 points from the student's best six GCSE/IGCSE/BTEC (or equivalent) courses. Some experience in a design-based GCSE subject is highly desirable, plus evidence of a strong design folio. Grade 6 (B) and higher in GCSE Product Design is desirable. Art/Textiles portfolios will be considered. Entry is dependent upon performance in the interview and a satisfactory reference, including GCSE/IGSCE predicted grades where relevant. Candidates will also be required to sit a computer based verbal and non-verbal reasoning assessment. For candidates outside of the UK we may also require the Ukiset test to be sat prior to interview.
