Textiles and Fashion is about the manipulation and application of a wide range of different materials and processes; these fabrics can then be applied to a range of different purposes – from fine art to fashion and interiors. From September 2022, Textiles was introduced as an A Level option at Worth. Textiles and Fashion designers, like any other artists, work in a huge variety of creative ways and your first two terms will be experimental, giving you the opportunity to experience a broad range of textile techniques, drawing workshops, pattern cutting and garment construction techniques. You will learn how to use mark making; you will be positively encouraged to be expressive and experimental in your approach to traditional practices such as hand and machine embroidery, weaving, silk painting, dying, batik, screen printing, knitting, felt making and the creation and use of mood boards for both interiors and fashion industries. Understanding how to generate ideas and respond to design concepts will be taught from initial primary and contextual research through to the development of visual language and personal outcomes, the course allows for multiple ways of applying your creativity to potential industry. The course provides the opportunity for creative flair and innovation.
Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7 (maximum of 42 points).
