In addition to being highly enjoyable, the study of History enables students to develop a greater understanding of both the past and the present day. Historians learn to write well and persuasively. They acquire an ability to express their opinions with clarity and confidence. In the first year students will study the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in depth. They will examine her religious policies and her management of domestic and foreign affairs. They will also study the development of America from 1800 to 1890, looking at Westward Expansion and the American Civil War. In the second year of study they will complete a unit on Civil Rights in America 1865-1992, as well as complete a 3,000-4,000 word independently researched essay on a historical issue from a choice of options.
Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7 (maximum of 42 points).
