Studying music is not simply for those who have the potential to become the next great composer or top performer. It offers a rich and robust learning experience, one which students will never forget, and one that will help them no matter what career they choose to pursue. Music in the Sixth Form offers intellectually stimulating courses which develop skills and understanding in literacy, history, world culture, teamwork, leadership, confidence, time-management, self-discipline, self-awareness, listening, critical thinking, and creativity.
Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7 (maximum of 42 points).
Students are able to opt for a heavier weighted assessment in either performing or composing, allowing specialism to suit the individual musician but also to broaden each student’s musical experience. By the end of the second year, students will have prepared a performance recital to be assessed by an external visiting examiner and completed at least two compositions, one of which will be in response to a brief set by the exam board.
