History of Art is a life enhancing study of works of art throughout the history of civilization; from ancient Greece to the 21st Century. Art is a visual language that can tell us as much about our past and present cultures as any written word. COURSE CONTENT - reconstruct the past and understand present cultures through works of art; - consider why works of art were produced and for whom; - unlock the meanings of works of art; - discover how works of art have been created; - see how art explains why our society is what it is today; - discover powerful themes such as love, sex, death, war, poverty, slavery, freedom and morality to name but a few. In the Lower Sixth pupils develop skills in visual analysis of paintings, sculptures and artworks and explore the themes of ‘War and Conflict’ and ‘Identities’ through art.
