Field trips are an essential part of the curriculum. Pupils studying. Geography attend outside talks, lead lessons, read magazines and follow topical case studies. The course aims to: • help you to develop an understanding of the natural and built environment • encourage an enquiring mind • build confidence in your ability to lead discussions • enable you to collect, decode and respond to data • prompt you to think about your own attitudes and values in relation to geographical issues and questions Unit 1: Physical Geography You will study the water and carbon cycles, coastal systems and hazards. Unit 2: Human Geography You will study global systems and global governance, changing places and population and the environment. Unit 3: Geography Fieldwork Individual investigation based on four days of fieldwork which may be at a residential centre. The investigation is based on a question or issue from anywhere in the specification. In order to complete their NEA, students will be required to attend a residential trip which will have an associated cost.
Pupils should have achieved a grade 6 or above in GCSE Geography.
Unit 1: Assessment is by a two-and-a-half hour written exam; multiple choice, short answer, levels of response and extended prose. Weighting: 40% Unit 2: Assessment is by a two and a half hour written exam multiple choice, short answer, levels of response and extended prose. Weighting: 40% Unit 3: Assessment is by a 3,000-4,000 word fieldwork investigation. Weighting: 20%
