Course summary

A-level fine art combines well with most subjects and pupils often enjoy the balance of a hands-on, coursework-based approach alongside their other academic subjects. All our teachers are themselves practising artists. Studio-based practice is contextualised with educational trips to galleries and museums and provides pupils with the opportunity to engage directly with art and design. As well as visiting key galleries in the UK such as the Tate Modern and the Saatchi Gallery, we have an annual trip abroad to destinations such as Vienna, Paris or Barcelona. Every year we have pupils who move on to study art related courses at university. These include art foundation, interior design, architecture, photography, fashion and more.

Entry requirements

To embark on A-levels or a BTEC pupils should have five grades 6 (b) in GCSE/IGCSE and at least grade 4 (OR C) in Mathematics and English in exceptional circumstances the Head Master may allow pupils to join the sixth form without achieving this hurdle as long as motivation can be guaranteed. Such an arrangement be reviewed termly. We strongly recommend pupils start A-levels having achieved a grade 7(or A) GCSE/IGCSE in each of the subjects they have chosen, or in subjects similar to those they have chosen. In addition, pupils should not start Mathematics or a Science A-level Without having achieved a grade 7(or A) in Mathematics
