Course summary

History is a highly regarded subject associated with intelligent, literate problem solvers and critical thinkers. Historians are able to assimilate large amounts of detail and work quickly and effectively. The transferable skills of research, critical analysis and evaluation inherent in the study of the subject are much prized by employers. At A-Level there is the benefit of having a choice from two very interesting courses, full of life, relevance and color. Whichever one you choose; the benefits are the same. However, the best reason for studying History is that it is intrinsically interesting. It is essentially stories about people; however, these are contested, and the interpretative aspect is partly what makes the subject so exciting. It is about the past but also speaks to the present and the future while interrelating and connecting to pretty much every other subject on the curriculum. Studying History A level creates well rounded, dynamic and erudite young people, independent thinkers with the confidence to address the issues and challenges of the 21st Century. The popular Lisk History Society provides a wide-ranging programme of activities such as plays, talks, debates, quizzes and an annual parade; several films have also been made. Local trips have included Wells, Glastonbury and Sedgemoor battlefield while overseas trips have included Egypt, Turkey, Morocco and southern Spain.
