The A Level Art and Design course fosters creative thinking and visual communication skills through a personalised project developed by the individual student under one-to-one consultation with their teacher. The course starts with intensive practical workshops where students are shaken out of past comfortable patterns and encouraged to begin a personal journey exploring new concepts, styles, artists and ideas that can elevate and extend them creatively. These can encompass styles such as 3d modelling, plaster casting, new drawing, layered printmaking or large-scale mixed media work. Through regular gallery visits (school led and independently) and classroom experimentation, all students make discoveries and find inspiration for their own art practice culminating in a large exhibition of their work (two projects/two units) at the end of the course.
