At Hurtwood we look to shock, amaze and challenge our students, not only through work within the course, but through exposure to a range of other theatre experiences and extra-curricular activities. We offer a two year A Level course working with a variety of theatre practitioners and professionals. Team-teaching and group work are at the heart of our success and we want students who work well in a team, have positive energy and are prepared to ‘have a go!’ Being creative and being brave are fundamental to our performance work at Hurtwood House and we can guarantee that the confidence and the skills that you acquire will be useful to you whatever direction you take next. The Edexcel A Level course is divided into 3 Components: Component 1: Devising - Students will devise an original performance worth 40% of the A Level Component 2: Text in Performance - Students will be directed in a group production and present an monologue of duologue to a visiting examiner. This is worth 20% of the A Level. Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice - Students will evaluate live theatre and explore two set texts in preparation for a final written exam. This is worth 40% of the A Level.
Selection is based on a personal interview involving the Headmaster, the prospective student and his/her parents. If it is felt that the student will fl ourish at Hurtwood and benefi t from the experience, then an unconditional place is off ered. There is no entry exam, nor a minimum set of entry requirements.
