Paper 1 Markets and Business Behaviour (Micro-economics) Economic methodology and the economic problem. Individual economic decision making. Price determination in a competitive market. Production, costs and revenue. Business objectives & economic efficiency. Perfect competition, imperfectly competitive (including contestable) markets and monopoly. The labour market. The market mechanism, market failure, government intervention in markets to address market failure and government failure. Assessed: written exam: 2 hours. 100 marks (35% of A-level) Questions: Section A: multiple choice and short answer questions (25 marks) Section B: data response questions requiring written answers, worth 50 marks; Section C: essay questions requiring written answers, choice of one from two worth 25 marks. Paper 2 The National and Global economy (Macroeconomics) The measurement of macroeconomic performance. How the macro-economy works: the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis, and related concepts. Economic performance. Financial markets and monetary policy. Fiscal policy and supply-side policies. The international economy Assessed: written exam 2 hours. 80 marks (35% of A-level) Questions: Section A: multiple choice and short-answer questions Section B: data response questions requiring written answers, worth 50 marks; Section C: essay questions requiring written answers, choice of one from two worth 25 marks Paper 3 Microeconomics & Macroeconomics (considering micro and macro-economic issues raised in paper 1 & 2) Assessed written exam: 2 hours. 100 marks. Entry requirements

It is expected that prior to embarking upon this course students will have achieved grades 9-4 in UK GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
